03.15 - 05.01 'As a space, as a piece' Liu Gang

The original idea of this project came from a private dialogue between Liu Gang and Deng Yeming, the founder of AM Art Space two years ago. Liu Gang came up with two thorough questions that why Deng Yeming started the space and what his real relationship with the space is in a nearly interrogating way. Deng’s answer was beyond Liu’s expectation and gradually extended, which facilitates today’s filed discussion. Is it possible that space exists as an art piece?  What on earth is the independence and sustainability of an independent space? And what is the relationship between an independent space and other spaces?

During the past few years, Liu Gang has been constantly participating in organizing and curating exhibitions. Meanwhile he has been conducting his artistic creation by means of photography. His seemly contradictory multiple identities in real work are interconnected with this conceptual plan. The discussion object of this installation points to space itself. Through such a logic and creative thinking as contradictory space, the new investigation of space and what happens in space is spontaneously generated.
